Expanding Our Horizons: Our New Outdoor Learning Project
At Stanton Road, we believe that education doesn’t just happen inside the classroom! We are thrilled to share that our next major school development project is the creation of a dedicated Outdoor Learning area for our children.
Why is Outdoor Learning so important?
Research shows that taking learning outside has incredible, long-term educational benefits for every single child. Being in nature provides a sense of mental freedom that allows children to think differently, more freely, and clears their minds. It is also a fantastic way to supplement and bring our core classroom curriculum to life.
By learning outdoors, our children will benefit in many ways:
- Building Confidence and Resilience: By managing outdoor activities and positive risk-taking, children learn to push their boundaries and build long-lasting confidence in their abilities.
- Boosting Essential Skills: Being in a natural environment actively triggers children’s problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
- Enhancing Wellbeing and Social Skills: Nature provides a secure, supportive setting that helps children re-set, feel grounded, and improve their social skills and compassion.
- Caring for Our World: Interacting directly with nature helps children develop a deep respect and sense of care for the earth, encouraging sustainable, pro-environmental behaviours for the future.
Our Progress Sofar
We are incredibly passionate about getting this initiative started. Our school staff have already completed their specialised training and are fully equipped with the knowledge to deliver fantastic outdoor education! However, the physical outdoor area itself is not quite ready for the children yet.
