Mrs Toll, Miss Chu, and Miss Paxford are absolutely delighted to welcome you and your children to a brand new school year in Holly Class!
In Holly Class, we pride ourselves on providing a highly nurturing and supportive environment where our curriculum is tailored specifically to the unique needs of each individual child. We understand that every child’s learning journey is different, and our primary focus is always on building strong foundations, fostering independence, and ensuring a smooth, confident transition for when the time comes to move up to Ivy Class or their next educational setting.
A Curriculum Tailored to Need and Communication
Because communication and interaction are at the heart of what we do, our curriculum is carefully designed to support these areas at every stage. In line with the Oxfordshire Early Years SEN Toolkit, we use a variety of proven strategies to help our children make sense of the world, such as visual timetables, social stories, and carefully structured routines. We focus heavily on emotional regulation, making choices, taking turns, and allowing the child to take the lead in their play.
Furthermore, as outlined in our Early Years Progression of Skills framework, Communication and Language are continuously developed throughout the year via high-quality interactions, daily group discussions, circle times, signing, and tailored speech and language interventions.
Inclusion, Socialisation, and Wider Experiences
Developing positive relationships and socialising with peers at their own level of development is a core part of our day. We actively use our wonderful inclusion playgrounds, providing a safe and engaging space for the children to play, explore, and build friendships. We also place great value on taking our learning outside of the classroom by going on exciting trips to enrich our topics and offer real-world, hands-on experiences.
Mainstream Opportunities
We strongly believe in an inclusive approach that prioritises a child’s emotional wellbeing. While our class provides a specialised, structured base, we actively support and provide opportunities for our children to attend mainstream classes whenever they feel safe, regulated, and completely comfortable to do so. This includes fantastic opportunities to integrate for sessions such as Read Write Inc. (RWI) Phonics, allowing them to learn alongside their mainstream peers while still receiving the bespoke support they need.
