Welcome to Willow Class
We are absolutely thrilled to welcome you to a brand new school year. Your teachers, Mrs McMillan and Mrs Parkinson, along with Mrs Worthington who will be working closely with us too, are so excited to guide our learners through an incredible journey of discovery.
This year, our curriculum is packed with engaging and exciting topics! We will be travelling back in time to uncover the dramatic events of the Great Fire of London—complete with a special history workshop—and discovering how British explorers from the Tudor times shaped our understanding of the world. In Geography, our adventures will take us from learning about UK countries and capital cities to exploring the vast continents and oceans of the world. Our reading and writing will be inspired by wonderful texts like Owl Babies, The Day the Crayons Quit, and a fantastic mix of traditional stories and Aesop’s Fables, which we will use to spark our own poetry, storytelling, and instructional writing. We will even be having an exciting visit from a real owl!
Building strong foundations and nurturing a lifelong love for learning is key to everything we do in Year 1 and 2. We have so many hands-on experiences planned, from investigating living things and everyday materials in Science , to getting creative in Design Technology by making puppets, building bridges, and even making bread. We will also explore our artistic talents by studying famous artists like Kandinsky and Matisse. Alongside our academic learning, we place a strong emphasis on Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE), focusing on families, relationships, and health and wellbeing to ensure every child feels supported, resilient, and confident as they continue to grow. We can’t wait to get started!
