Early Years Foundation Stage
At Stanton Road, we welcome children from age 2 -5 in our Foundation Stage 1 and 2 provisions. We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their true potential. Our EYFS curriculum has been carefully designed to inspire our children, encourage them to be creative and to develop their curiosity about the world around them. It has been designed so that our children will enjoy coming to school, build on their existing skills and knowledge and develop new skills and knowledge and a lifelong love of learning.
Our Early Years staff are dedicated to providing an environment that supports every child’s personal, social and emotional development, so that children feel cared for, safe and secure and therefore ready to learn, whatever stage of their journey they are at. Staff relationships and interactions with the children are of a high quality and are responsive to individual needs and interests. Through adult modelling and guidance our children are supported to develop a positive sense of self, develop their resilience and become independent learners.
We know that parents and carers are a child’s first educators and because of this we are dedicated to building firm, supportive and reciprocal relationships with all parents and carers so that we can work together to ensure that all of our children are happy, safe, confident and able to reach their full potential.
At Stanton Road, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which focuses on seven areas of learning. Each area of the Early Years Curriculum has an Early Learning Goal:
Prime areas of learning
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Specific areas of learning
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
Our curriculum consists of a balance of adult interaction and play based opportunities, which take place both in our indoor and outdoor environments, which are carefully resourced and planned. Play is a vehicle for learning and a way for children to express themselves; our play based provision allows children to revisit, rehearse, consolidate and learn, alongside the valuable role of the quality adult. At Stanton Road, adults work alongside the children providing new knowledge and facts, giving them experiences and developing their skills. Children have access to open-ended, flexible and skills driven provision. We aim for children to bring their own magic into the environment to inspire and move learning forward.
Communication and language development lies at the heart of our Early Years curriculum, our children are provided with opportunities to develop vocabulary and the language needed to express themselves and communicate with others effectively. Alongside our strong focus on oracy, we promote the use of high quality texts linked to the children’s interests and experiences. Our EYFS curriculum provides opportunities for children to learn about the world around them at local, national and global level, we also teach the children the importance of looking after their bodies through healthy eating, good dental care, and by being physically active. Alongside this, from summer term in F1, we also focus on systematic and structured teaching of RWInc phonics, reading, writing and maths to ensure our children have solid foundations for the next stage of their education. Children at Stanton Road leave our Foundation Stage 2 with the skills, attitudes and attributes that they need to continue their learning journey into Key Stage One and beyond.
