Governors

Our Governors at Stanton Road Primary School

The Role of School Governors

The Department for Education defines governors as:

‘the strategic leaders of our schools [who] have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education.’

They exercise four key functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and

  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

  • Ensuring decisions take into account the views and experiences of stakeholders.

Our Governors

Ms S McShane- Headteacher

I joined Stanton Road Primary School in September 2023. I am passionate about education for all and want to ensure all our children feel happy and safe in school and grow to reach their potential.  As part of the Governing Body, I provide key information to Governors and I am accountable to them for the effectiveness of the school. I have responsibilities for safeguarding, evaluating the effectiveness of the school and developing the school development plan.  I feedback to the Governing body at Local Governing Body meetings and meeting with the commitee members . I am lucky to work with a supportive Governing Body who are keen to help the school improve and grow.

Mrs Z Wakelam- Chair of Governors (Co-opted Governor)

Term Ends November 2025

I am a tax adviser in a large accountancy firm in Liverpool where I advise a variety of businesses across the region. I also lead the office's fundraising and volunteering initiatives to support local charitable and social enterprise community projects.

As a former pupil, I spent seven happy years at Stanton Road, as did my daughter many years later.  I am proud to be part of the school community now as a governor and enjoy supporting school in providing happy and positive experiences for all children.

Mrs H Brennan- Co-opted Governor

Term ends February 2028

I have been a member of the governing body since February 2020.  After talking about the role of a Governor with a friend, who at the time was the Vice Chair, I thought it sounded interesting and good to see a different side to school life. I have had two children previously attending Stanton Road Primary School.

I have worked for Liverpool City Council for nearly 20 years. I am passionate about supporting the school and its community in any way I can, particularly in relation to Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Mrs J Chapman-Brown- Parent Governor and Vice Chair

Term Ends November 2026
I joined the Stanton Road community in 2016 when my son joined F2 and I was delighted to be nominated as parent governor in 2018. I hope to use the role to represent parents and build the relationship between parents and staff. I hope to ensure the school continues to provide the best possible opportunities and experiences for our children.

My professional background is over 15 years in the digital/ web industry where my roles ranged from training, implementation and project management to internal business reporting and systems. For the last 3 years, I have worked at Woodchurch High School as an exam invigilator which is very rewarding as it focuses on supporting the students through a stressful time. I have over 12 years experience as a Brownie Leader; it’s great to see the girls develop and grow through a range of activities. I’ve also been involved in other Youth projects with Wirral Council such as the Young People’s Forum and Youth Parliament. I hope my experience can be useful as a member of the Governing body.

Mr C Fidge- Parent Governor

Term ends December 2026
I have two children at Stanton Road Primary School, our son was born in 2010 and our daughter in 2013. I enjoy hearing about the wide variety of topics they learn in school and it’s rewarding to see them grow and their interests and imagination develop. We like the sense of togetherness and community we have at Stanton Road and I wanted to do more to support the school, which is why I asked to be nominated for parent governor. I have a career in science and research and since 2011, I have been working at Unilever R&D Port Sunlight. I can usually be found dropping the kids off at breakfast club or picking them up from the after-school club. I look forward to helping wherever I can.

Vacant Post- Staff Governor

Mrs S Williams-Parent Governor

Term Ends April 2026

I am passionate about all children being able to access the opportunities that education gives them, so I was delighted when an opportunity to be a Parent Governor came up in 2022. I have got two children at Stanton Road and I love having the opportunity to be a representative of the parents, and play a part in making Stanton Road the best school it can be.

In my day-to-day career, I have worked in Financial Services for the past 14 years, primarily in Business Performance and large-scale Business Transformation roles. When I am not working, I am usually doing something active, either out with the kids or at the gym. I am quite adventurous and love trying new things.

If you would like to contact the Chair of Governors you can do this via the school office by emailing schooloffice@stantonroad.wirral.sch.uk.
